INTRODUCTION --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally, I was able to post my very first FAQ! I'm going straight to the point. I'm tired of hearing gamers say, "Final Fantasy VII is SOOOOOOOOOOOO easy!". If you believe you're a tough one and Final Fantasy VII just don't have what it takes to challenge your ego, why not take the challenges available out there. If those challenges are not enough, I'm throwing SCIENM Challenge for you. Don't brag if you've waltzed right through the Solo Character,No Materia, Initial Equipment, and/or Low Level Challenge. Combining them is a different story! A big part of the guide focuses on Boss Strategies and Dungeon Survival. I made this guide in a way that no enemy boss will be skipped. Even the optional ones will be tackled with, except for Emerald and Ruby Weapon... but, don't worry! I'm offering you a little help on how to beat those two ogres in a Solo Character Inital Equipment and No Materia BATTLE! I was doubtful at first if a SCIENM Challenge is possible, but I was able to do it. Now here I am presenting this FAQ. For those who are interested in taking this "Ultimate Final Fantasy VII Challenge... So Far"- lots of luck! It's my pleasure to help. Hope you'll like it! Fantasy Gamer --- "Let's mosey!" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- II. POSSIBLE QUESTIONS --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Q: What is a SCIENM Challenge? A: It refers to SOLO CHARACTER INITIAL EQUIPMENT NO MATERIA Challenge. This means that you have to kill your other partymates before engaging with the enemy, equip your initial set of weapon and armor, and never use materia in ANY way. 2. Q: Is it really possible to beat a SCIENM game? A: Definitely! I will not have the guts to make this guide if I myself did not finish it. 3. Q: Why is accessory allowed? A: It is optional. There are parts of the game that will require you to level up a lot just to pass. The use of Accessory is part of the strategy to beat some enemies in SCIENM. 4. Q: Is it allowed to use the W-Item trick? A: No. SCIENM is also a No Materia game. Getting all the needed items such as X-Potions is part of the challenge. 5. Q: Can I use my Chocobo Lure materia? I want to breed my own chocobo to get lots of GP. A: The use of any materia is prohibited in the No Materia part... not even using the Chocobo Lure to catch a chocobo for crossing the Mythril Marsh. 6. Q: Where can I get lots of GP if I can't race my own chocobo? A: You can get an easy 30 GP in the Moogle game in Wonder Square. You may also try the baketball game there. You can receive up to 300 GP if you're good. If you have enough time and patience to wait, try the Chocobo Race. Finally, once in a while, there is a guy that randomly appears near the entrance of Gold Saucer selling GP for 10000 Gil:100 GP (you can only get a max of 100 GP every time he appears). 7. Q: Can you beat the WEAPONS in a SCIENM game? A: Basically, Diamond and Ultima are the only WEAPONS you can beat in a normal SCIENM game. Ruby and Emerald are too hard for us to tackle in this challenge... except if you use Cait Sith's instant death Slot combination. 8. Q: How hard is this SCIENM thing? A: Enough to make you throw your Dual Shock Controller once in a while. He, he! 9. Q: How can I get the Omnislash? A: Once you have enough GP, go to the Battle Square in Gold Saucer and fight your way to the top while collecting enough BP to buy it. You have two options: (1) Get it in disc 1 for 51200 BP, but weaker enemies, or (2) Get it in disc 2 for 32000 BP, but you have to fight stronger enemies. Choose your own style. I used the second option. 10.Q: What can I get in beating a SCIENM game? A: Like other challenges out here, you will not receive any special item in beating a SCIENM game. All you get is a little boost in your ego and you can yell with all you care that you're an elite Final Fantasy Gamer! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- III. FINAL FANTASY VII CHALLENGES --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are so many gamers complaining how easy Final Fantasy VII is. As one good fan of this game, I have the SCIENM Game offered to those who want challenge! Solo Character (SC)- this is "a la Solid Snake" quest. Save the world alone! Use all the equipments available and any materia combo you want. Enemies in group or ambush, or pincer ambushes are the ingredients for "Game Over". You need to think very fast to avoid wasting your precious turn. This can be the basis of the hardest FF7 challenge that will be available in the future. Initial Equip (IE)- You don't really need to be so powerful to win this game. What you need is enough HP to survive the enemies' attacks. Just pack lots of HP Plus and/or level up a lot + with support characters, it will make it even easier. No Materia (NM) - you are prohibited to use materia in any way, but you can equip the most powerful weapon and armor in the game. A little level up is enough to finish this challenge. Initial Limit (IL)- you can use anything, but you should stick to your initial limit. With materia, no problem! You can even do a Low-Level game in cojunction with this one. No Save (NS) - what a lousy challenge! All you need is to make sure that your PS One or PS2 is well-ventilated to avoid overheating. Otherwise, you will have to resort to playing the game so fast making this challenge some sort of Low Level game. It will also require your FF7 knowledge, though. No Item (NI) - you need to have a good knowledge of materia combo. Make good use of the inns. Low Level (LL) - You have to beat the game with as low level as you can (can you say < Lv 30?), but you can abuse everything the game has to offer. You just need to pack your characters with lots of HP Plus materia + good weapon + your most powerful armor. The thing that made this easier than SCIENM, as I believe, is the fact that you can use more than one character in the battles. This means that you can have a support character that can heal you or revive you while the others hack the enemies to death. You just have to be very patient to find Movers to level up your materia without gaining exp. Group target attacks by enemies is very dangerous. SCIENM - combine the first three challenges and you have the idea of SCIENM. You really have to level up a lot... I admit that but, in a Solo Character game, it's not that easy... and besides, leveling up is so boring. I recommend that you LEVEL UP ONLY WHEN EXTREMELY NEEDED, so it will become some sort of a Low Level game in it's own right. The Initial Equipment part makes it far more challenging. Be very careful. The No Materia part is not a big problem unless you're a big materia-dependent gamer... you'll have a hard time adjusting. Leveling up is not the sole key for survival in SCIENM. OTHER FINAL FANTASY VII CHALLENGES: ----------------------------------- SCIENM + Initial Limit (SCIENMIL)- I don't know if it is possible but, I'm pretty sure it will be very hard... even just the leveling up process, not to mention how you will get X-Potions. Low Level Initial Equipment No Materia- Low Level + SCIENM... only with support and weaker characters! I'll do this if I have time. Item Only (IO) - All you can use to fight is the Item command. Seems impossible. Enemy-Skill Only (ESO)- an interesting challenge. I don't have enough time to try it now, though. No Item + No Inn + No Materia + E-Skill Only- IMHO, impossible without Manipulate. No Manipulate= No Magic Hammer= No MP soon= Game Over. Note: All statements above are all based on my own opinion and experiences in trying some of these challenges. MAKE YOUR OWN JUDGMENT! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. SCIENM RULES --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GENERAL ------- In BATTLE, the only commands you can use are: Attack, Limit, Defend, Change, and Item. In MENU, you can use all except Magic, Materia, Equip and PHS. SOLO CHARACTER (SC) PART ------------------------ The hardest part of SCIENM Challenge. For the sake of this FAQ, I will use Cloud as my main character. I don't have enough time to make a separate FAQ for the other characters. I will only use the other characters in the following part of the game: Aeris- when the Turks attack in the church in Sector 5. Barret- during your battle with Hundred/Heli Gunner in your escape in Midgar, duel with Dyne, vs Rapps in Da Chao, and when the WEAPON attacks Junon. Yuffie- when battling the gods of the pagoda... who else? Tifa- before looking for Cloud in Mideel. Cid- during the Huge Materia Quest in Mt. Corel. I suggest that you stick with Cloud and Barret as your only choice of main character in SCIENM since they have the most basic weapon and armor in the game. Characters like Cait Sith and Cid has a decent piece of armor, which may take some of the challenge in your respective SCIENM game.If you want Tifa, I think you will not succeed. Tifa has a very weak defense... with the Initial Equipment handicap on, she might fall down easily. Also, her Limit Breaks are not as astounding as Cloud's and Barret's. If you still insist, try your luck. INITIAL EQUIPMENT (IE) PART --------------------------- A good handicap in conjunction with Solo Character. This part prohibits the use of any weapons or armors besides the ones each character have at the time they join your party:( All equipments found on your journey should be sold for quick cash:) Accessory is a BIG exemption in the IE part. I can't imagine it being possible to finish SCIENM without at least, the Ribbon... not actually but, if you want to to have a 100% true SCIENM game, I'm warning you that you will have to resort to lots of level up making the challenge a lousy one. NO MATERIA (NM) PART -------------------- No materia shall be used during the game in any way, except as collection. It should never be equipped to use Magic, Summon, Command, and Support; change status; and sold for money regardless of price... not even the Chocobo Lure to catch Chocobos! There are times when a character joins the party with materia equipped. In those cases, you should de-equip it as soon as possible. Never ever attempt to use it! The following characters have some materia equipped when they join: Cloud- Lightning and Ice magic materia Red XIII- Fire magic materia Yuffie- Throw command materia Cait Sith- Manipulate command materia Don't mind about Cloud and Sephiroth's materia in the Kalm flashback, the Huge Materia, and the Black and White Materia as they don't affect the SCIENM game. OPTIONAL -------- For the best SCIENM experience, change your ATB to ACTIVE... like what I did. You'll feel more nervous and you have to think faster when doing the battles. Every second will matter. A wrong move could mean death. You might even want to make the battles FAST... like what I did...again. Isn't it exciting? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. BASIC SURVIVAL TIPS --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Always be cautious of your HP. Whenever it goes pretty low, use healing items. You never know when an enemy will make critical hits or ambush attacks. 2. Save often. You can use only one character in battle. If he dies, you have to restart from where you last saved. 3. Learn the art of escaping. Although it is not recommended to run often because you will miss lots of experience necessary to successfully beat the hard bosses further in the game. Run if you think you cannot beat the enemy. Remember that "discretion is the better part of valor". 4. Be sure to collect all treasures in the towns and dungeons. It will help you earn some money to buy healing items early in the game. 5. Prioritize healing items such as Potions and Hi-Potions whenever you visit the stores. They are your "LIFE" in this quest. Once you have the Tiny Bronco, you can start stocking X-Potions in Wutai... and be sure you get a lot! Also keep a Hyper or two in your inventory to put you in Fury status whenever the need arises. 6. To be safe while earning some Gil, fight only near a town. This way, you can easily rest at the inn when you're seriously injured avoiding waste of precious items. 7. Learn your level 3 limit as soon as possible. They will be your best friends in tackling the enemies while you still have to win the Omnislash. Use Meteorain for boss battles, and Finishing Touch for normal encounters. The latter is especially useful in getting X-Potions in the Wutai Area. 8. Learn the timing. I find it safer to attack just after the enemy attacks you. This way, you will have the idea of how much damage an enemy can deal. In the long run, it will help you in planning whether to attack or to heal. 9. Try and try until you die... reload... and try again...until you succeed. Some enemy bosses will be a big pain in the ass. Be accustomed to seeing the Game Over screen. Don't worry, there are only a few of them. 10.Lastly, don't forget to smile. It's my most essential tip for survival. It is very important especially when fighting the Carry Armor. You need to smile each time you see "Mr. Game Over" or you'll lose your sanity, or you'll die because of high blood after your 20th attempt to beat him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Thanks to Ribbon. Trine- can deal up to 930 damage. Sleepel- Rhanks to Ribbon. Mini- Thanks Ribbon! Cure 2- you'll hate this one. STRATEGY : Equip Ribbon. You need lots of patience to beat him. Start the battle with Doom of the Living ready to deal an early damage. His attacks are nothing to worry about. If you can afford, use Hero Drinks to boost your attack damage a bit. I noticed that it's better to attack ONLY when Doom of the Living is ready. If you do otherwise, he'll just counter every damage you do with Cure 2. STRATEGY 2: If you want a 100% SCIENM, be sure to use Vaccine. My Level : Yuffie @ Lv 38 Lasted : 19 minutes --------> Area : JUNON, UNDERWATER REACTOR Notes : The most frustrating part of SCIENM. Don't attempt this area without learning Omnislash. No matter how hard, you have to have it! If you're not up to the task of getting it, have at least a VERY high level + Meteor Rain. Boss : Carry Armor (3 targets) HP : Body 24000, Arms 2x 10000 (each) Info : Lapis Laser- will fill your Limit bar faster. Don't forget to heal. Grab- "Game over" STRATEGY : Our main objective is to destroy those arms before they grab you. Start the battle with Omnislash ready and use it A.S.A.P. RUDE Lightning- after casting it, he remained standing there for the rest of the battle... I don't know why? STRATEGY : Start the battle with Omnislash 'coz you're not going to use Omnislash for a while with their pathetic damage. To make the battle shorter, put your character in the front row todeal more damage. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 46 Lasted : 8 minutes --------> Area : ROCKET TOWN Notes : talk to the old man here after the rocket collides with Meteor to receive an item. Boss : Rude HP : 9000 Info : Lightning 2- can deal up to 440 damage. Cure 2- I hate enemies with Cure abilities! MBarrier- halves magic damage against him. STRATEGY 1: Enter battle with Omnislash ready and use it A.S.A.P. Equip the Bolt Ring to null his Lightning 2. STRATEGY 2: If you want a 100% SCIENM, just heal often. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 47 Lasted : 3 minutes --------> Area : MIDGAR AREA Notes : Be sure you bought a lot of Swift Bolt in Wutai. Boss : Diamond Weapon HP : 50000 Info : Regular attack- stomp; can deal up to 1100 damage. Beam attack- can deal up to 740 damage. Diamond Flash- if he finishes his countdown, he'll use this. Will bring you to critical regardless of your HP. STRATEGY : You will NEVER be able to beat him with brute force. Toss a lot a Swift Bolt. You need about 30-40 of it. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 47 Lasted : 8 minutes --------> Area : MIDGAR, WINDING TUNNEL Notes : Beat one, and they'll run away. Boss : Reno, Elena, and Rude (Optional Battle) HP : 25000, ????, 28000 respectively Info : RENO Regular attack- can deal up to 360 damage. Electropod- can deal up to 900 damage. ELENA Opening Attack- magic that can deal up to 650 damage. Regular attack- magic that can deal up to 750 damage. Counterattack- counters any physical attack you give. Confu- grrrr! Change- can change from front to back row, vice versa. RUDE Regular attack- can deal up to 1200 damage. Grand Spark- can deal up to 1100 damage. Turk Light- deals up to 600 damage. STRATEGY : They are hard. The best tip I can give is to put Cloud at the back row. Use Light Curtain if you have some but, it is not necessary. If you can reach the point where you can use Omnislash 5x, you'll never see the Turks again. This battle is a little hard so don't lose patience. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 49 Lasted : 6 minutes, 5 attempts --------> Area : MIDGAR, TO SISTER RAY Notes : He have enough HP to keep you busy. He's too SLOW! STRATEGY : Be on the back row. The normal Attack-Limit combo will be all right. Keep your HP high. As you can see, most of his attacks can be done twice in a turn. I beat him with 6x Omnislash and 32 regular attack. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 49 Lasted : 28 minutes --------> Area : MIDGAR, MAKO CANNON Notes : This is long and continuous battle. Boss : Professor Hojo My Level : Cloud @ Lv 51 Form 1 : Hojo HP : 13000 Info : Summon- calls for Poodler Sample and Bad Rap Sample. Bad Rap Sample can attack 2x in a turn. Regenerate- can revive fallen parts. STRATEGY : This is the most powerful form of Hojo. Move fast and keep you HP high. Lasted : 10 minutes Form 3 : Lifeform Hojo HP : ???? Info : Regular attack- can deal up to 500 damage. Combo attack- can deal up to 750 damage + poison and sleep. Silence- you don't have to worry about this. Slow- makes your ATB bar fill slower. STRATEGY 1: Use 2x Omnislash will end Hojo's craziness. STRATEGY 2: If you want a 100% SCIENM , cast a Vaccine a tthe start of the battle to prevent abnormal status by Combo Attack. Lasted : 4 minutes --------> DISC 3 ........ Area : JUNON AREA Notes : Be patient to chase him. Boss : Ultimate WEAPON (Optional) HP : Info : Regular attack Ultima Beam- not quite powerful. Shadow Flare- hope he will not use this if your level is low. Earth 3- heal fast! STRATEGY : Just keep hacking him with your sword, but don't forget to heal. Countdown to Ultima- if her countdown ends, she'll cast this deadly spell dealing up to 4700 damage. STRATEGY : Well, attack him normally. It will be helpful to start the battle with Omnislash ready because you won't be using that every now and then because of her pathetic slap. Concentrate on the body. If you destroy the body, you destroy all. If you're strong enough, you can kill her before the countdown ends. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 75; Lv 65 in first attempt and I won! Lasted : 5 minutes --------> Area : NORTH CAVE Notes : This is it! You'll soon learn what is really meant by "LAST BOSS". Boss : "final boss" FORM 1 : Bizzaro Sephiroth (5 targets) HP : Head 9000, Core 50000, Arms 2x 9000 (each) and Torso 30000 INFO : Regular Attack- magic attack that deals up to 850 damage. Fire 3- deals up to 3000 damage. Ice 3- deals up to 3500 damage. Quake 3- deals up to 4100 damage. Bolt 3- deals up to 3900 damage. Stigma- deals up to 1700 damage. Demi 3- less 3/4 of current HP. Heartless Angel- HP down to one! Bizzaro Energy- regular heal by about 6600. Aurora Fence- revives your fallen allies at critical HP! STRATEGY 1: Be sure you have the Tetra Elemental equipped!... or else you're going to spend most of your time healing later. First, you have to use a Hero Drink to boost your attack a little. At the early part of the battle, concentrate on destroying the arms first. Although Sephy can revive those arms, it will help you in concentrating all your attacks at the core. Whenever an arm is revived, destroy it immediately. Now that arms are gone, attack the core. Whenever a part is revived, destroy it immediately. Once you destroy the Core, he will stop in using his Bizzaro Energy. Keep hacking and you'll win soon. STRATEGY 2: If you a 100% SCIENM, take some time to get Vincent. You should encounter Yin Yang at the mansion basement and received a MIRROR. Rather than using Tetra Elemental, equip the Ribbon. This way, all if Bizzaro Sephy's elemental attack will bounce back to him dealing additional damage to him and at the same time making your battle against Safer Sephy easier... but, I prefer Strategy 1. You will appreciate the hardship of "Last Boss" battle that way. Use the rest of Strategy 1. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 76; Lv 65 in first attempt and I won! Lasted : 12 minutes FORM 2 : Safer Sephiroth HP : ???? Info : Regular attack- deals up to 3500 damage. Shadow Flare- deals 6400-6700 damage with MBarrier off. Deen- deals about 1200 damage. Pale Horse- deals up to 2100 damage + negative status. Supernova- will make you critical regardless of HP, plus random negative status... usually, Frog, Silence and Confuse. Break- earth element. Can deal up to 4000 damage. Wall- casts Barrier + MBarrier on himself. I think ,not a big deal. DeSpell- removes any positive stat you have like Barrier, MBarrier, and even the effect of Vaccine! Ascends- use magic items. Descends- you can attack him physically and with limit. Sephy has the following pattern at the start of the battle: Wall (Ascends) Shadow Flare Pale Horse Supernova Break (Descends) Wall/DeSpell Deen After that, his move will be a little randomized, but the following will be the basic pattern: (Ascends) Shadow Flare- very rare Pale Horse Supernova Break (Descends) Shadow Flare- very rare Regular attack/ Wall/ DeSpell/ Deen... and the cycle goes on. STRATEGY 1: If you don't have enough HP to contain Shadow Flare, you'll die. You might want to use a Lunar Curtain but, don't depend on it too much. I have experienced that sometimes it doesn't matter if you're in MBarrier or not. I even experienced that the damage was bigger when I am in MBarrier. Start the battle with Vaccine. Keep healed. You may use a Hero Drink if you want. Whenever you've been DeSpelled, use a Vaccine until you consume all. With the pattern I gave above, you will know when to attack or prepare to heal. Never use regular attacks. It's a waste of turn. Always use Fire Veil/Swift Bolt when he ascends. When he use Wall, you may want to use a Holy Torch but, again, don't depend on it. I have experienced also that his Wall doesn't have any effect. There are some instances that my attacks deals more damage when he's Walled. With Supernova, you can be sure that you're not going to miss Omnislash. The bad part of this battle is when you have already consumed all your Vaccine. Usually after her Supernova and Pale Horse you'll be in Frog, Confuse, and Sadness status. Stock lots of Remedy, Maiden's Kiss and Hyper. Hope you'll not use a Vaccine after you've been inflicted with those negative status... like what happend to me! Don't worry, for the first time you'll know what does it really mean to face "THE FINAL BOSS". STATEGY 2: Now that you are equipped with the almighty Ribbon, all it takes to stop you is the deadly Shadow Flare. Use the rest of Strategy 1. My Level : Cloud @ Lv 76 Lasted : 41 minutes, 3 attempts FORM 3 : Sephiroth HP : ???? Info : Regular attack- Masamune Strategy : Come on! You've got a hard time to reach this far. The damage of Omnislash will still be the same with r without it. No problem if you got lots of Hero Drink like me. If not, better save it against Safer Sephy to slightly increase your defense. B . Best Places to Level Up ---------------------------- I did not list all the enemies in the following areas. I included only the best sources of experience in each place. Experience received vary depending on the number of enemies appearing at each battle encounter. NORTH CAVE: Magic Pots x1 or x2 - 8000-16000 exp Master Tonberry - 6000 exp Dark Dragon - 5000 exp Dragon Zombie - 4000 exp MIDEEL AREA: Head Hunters x3 or x4 - 1950-2600 exp Spirals x2 or x3 - 1400-2100 exp Sea Worm - 1300 exp CORAL VALLEY: Bound Fats + Malldancers- 1920-2260 exp SUNKEN GELNIKA: Unknown - 1500 exp Unknown 2 - 3000 exp Unknown 3 - 2000 exp Serpent - 1400 exp C . Item Whereabouts ---------------------- Most items listed can only be gotten from treasure chests and as battle spoils (in a SCIENM Game) because if you still don't get it, No Materia = No Steal and No Morph. I put only those items which, I think may help you in your quest. Item : X-Potion (heals character to full HP) Location : Wutai Area, Da Chao Enemy/ies: Bizzarre Bug Note : the most important item in the SCIENM game. Be sure to have lots of it. Item : Vaccine (prevents status change) Location : Icicle Inn (1) and North Cave (2), Coral Valley Enemy/ies: I think, rare drop from Bound Fat. Note : needed if you want to add the Accessory in the Initial Equipment handicap of SCIENM. Item : Hero Drink (increases stats in battle) Location : Random prize in Chocobo Square, Icicle Inn (1), and North Cave (2) Enemy/ies: --- Note : will definitely make battles a little less harder. Item : Holy Torch (casts DeSpell) Location : Sunken Gelnika Enemy/ies: Super rare spoil from Serpent Note : useful for the last boss, but not necessary. Item : Mirror (casts Reflect) Location : Shinra Mansion Enemy/ies: spoil from Yin Yang when trying to get Vincent Note : can be useful against Bizzaro Sephy if you don't have Tetra Elemental. Item : Light Curtain (casts Barrier) Location : Sunken Gelnika; Da Chao Enemy/ies: Super rare spoil from Unknown; Random spoil from Garuda Note : not important, but can be helpful. Item : Lunar Curtain (casts MBarrier) Location : Da Chao Enemy/ies: Random spoil from Foulander and Garuda Note : extremely needed if you want to beat the last boss at a lower level. Item : Graviball (casts Demi) Location : Train Graveyard Enemy/ies: Deenglow Note : helpful in the Corel Huge Materia quest. Item : T/S Bomb (Casts Demi 2) Location : outside Corel Village. Enemy/ies: Flapbeat Note : needed in the Corel Huge Materia quest. If you plan to fight Emmy, you need lots of it. D . Cross the Mythril Marsh without Chocobo (optional way) ----------------------------------------------------------- Try to cross the swamp. When the Midgar Zolom comes near, quickly Save your game and reload. Now, the serpent is far but, you're still in the same place where you saved. Continue to cross the swamp until you reach the cave:) E . Cait Sith's Instant Death Combination ----------------------------------------- Row 3 Cait Sith faces. This works just like Selphie's The End in FF8. F . SCIENM Battle VS WEAPONS ---------------------------- Even though you beat the SCIENM Game... "one of the hardest FF7 Challenges... so far", I know many of us has still an empty place in our hearts because there are still two bosses standing alive, namely, Ruby and Emerald WEAPON. Although not easy, there's really a way in beating these two behemoths! This part is my little way of helping you fill up that emptiness. Before you start raising your eyebrows, I want to make this clear... "SCIENM Battle VS WEAPONS"... stressing the word "BATTLE"! This means that the SCIENM aspect will apply only to the "WEAPON Battle" alone. This further means that, you can use your beloved materia, your best weapons, and your other partymates to power up your characters before fighting the two:) You may use your save files from your previous games, preferably those with maxed-out-stat characters. This part is just for additional "fun and challenge", and not a real part of the SCIENM Challenge. GETTING STARTED: ---------------- POWERING UP I suggest you use either Cloud or Cid to confront Ruby and Emmy for one good reason- their Lv 4 Limit Breaks are the most devastating ones in the game! Equip Yuffie with her Conformer + Morph materia. Go to the Sunken Gelnika and start morphing the enemies there for the invaluable Stat Sources. The following enemies can also be morphed into Sources: Location: Mt. Corel Bagnadrana- Guard Source Location: Gonaga, Meltdown Reactor Heavy Tank- Power Source Location: Mt. Nibel Screamer - Power Source Location: Mideel Area Spiral - Guard Source Location: Chest in the Temple of the Ancients, Battle Square 8 Eye- Magic Source Location: Whirlwind Maze Killbin- Mind Source Dragon Rider- Guard Source Location: Mako Cannon Maximum Kimaira- Guard Sorce Location: Sunken Gelnika Unknown - Power Source Unknown 2 - Guard Source Unknown 3 - Magic Source Serpent - Mind Suorce Bap Rap - Luck Source Poodler - Speed Source You should have around 200+ in all stats. The most important stats, Defense and Luck should be maxed out. ITEMS NEEDED For Ruby WEAPON - 50+ X-Potion - 1 Vaccine - 4+ Hero Drink - Dazers (Optional) - Tetra Elemental accessory For Emerald WEAPON - 99 X-Potion - 99 Graviball and/or T/S Bomb - 4+ Hero Drink (Optional) - Power Wrist or Championship Belt THE WEAPON BATTLE: ------------------ VS Ruby 1. Engage in battle with the other party members dead... that's basic. 2. The first move you have to do is to use Vaccine to avoid status change. 3. Prioritize healing over offense. Usually, you have to use X-Potion after his attacks. 4. His Ruby Flame will heal you because of Tetra Elemental! 5. Use your Hero Drink whenever he uses Ruby Flame. Use at least 4. 6. Once you're done with the Hero, your attack will deal between 2500-3500 HP of damage and your defense will increase significantly. 7. His claws can kill you if your HP is less than 8000. 8. There are 2 ways to kill Ruby: a. Pound him with Omnislash in his regular stance. It is risky but you can kill him in just 30 min.- 1 hour. I was able to beat him with this method about 8 times already. b. Destroy the claws and attack normally. All he can do without his claws are his pathetic Big Swing and Comet 2. Note that he can always revive his claws. This is a safe method but, it will take you forever. I tried this one once but, it is boring so I finished him with the first method. VS Emmy: I always thought Ruby was harder than Emmy but, not now! 1. Change your ATB to FAST. This will save you time. 2. Prioritize healing over offense. 3. Use Hero Drink in the first few openings. This will significantly reduce the emeralds' damage. 4. Use any opening you see to toss a Graviball or T/S Bomb... 9999 damage! 5. Start the battle with Omnislash ready. Use this to take down the first batch of emeralds that will appear. 6. Learn the timing of "when will the emeralds appear?". Be sure you have Omnislash ready to destroy most of them when they show up. 7. One good news: Aire Tyre Tam will do no damage! 8. I beat him only once in SCIENM battle but, I forgot to use the AWESOME Gravibal and T/S Bomb. Now, with those two, I'm sure you'll have a better chance to win:) Both Ruby and Emmy may become a pain in the ass in a SCIENM battle but, with enough practice and patience, you'll even surpass what I did!
